Station overview

Facilities

Upfield is located at the northern end of the Barry Road level crossing, which provides station access.

The station consists of one side platform, with a large weatherboard building at the Flinders Street end, with an enclosed waiting room, a ticket office and toilets. A large Metcard ticket vending machine is located inside the waiting room, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins, as well as a myki ticket vending machine. A stabling yard is situated at the down end (Somerton direction) of the station.

History

Upfield station opened on 8 October 1889 as North Campbellfield. The station closed in 1903, reopened in 1928, closed again in 1956 and reopened again in 1959 as Upfield.[1] A disused track extends to Somerton at the down end, but is blocked by the stabling yard.

Despite being always staffed, the station was not made a Premium Station until December 2007, with funding made available by the Victorian Government Public Transport and Liveability statement of May 2006.[2]
